THE floating bridge is not set to return to service for at least another month, the Isle of Wight Council has announced.

The local authority says work continues to return the floating bridge to service as swiftly and safely as possible.

The latest report from its specialist contractors revealed the extent of the damage is greater than originally anticipated, and the repairs will take longer to complete.

The service is now not expected to resume until mid-November.

"We can only apologise for the ongoing disruption to the service caused by a major fault with one of the vessel's main engines," said a spokesperson for the council.

The launch service for foot passengers and cyclists will continue to operate from 5am until 11pm — 6.30am until 11pm on Sundays.
