THE Red Arrows gave eager festival-goers a reason to turn their eyes skyward this afternoon (Thursday) — by way of a terrific flying display.

The famous flying aces opened the first day of the four-day festival just before 5pm, after departing from Bournemouth Airport.

The team could be seen from various points on the Island, including The Needles and St Catherine's Point.

Festival boss John Giddings said it was to be a celebration of the festival starting up again after such a long hiatus.

Kaiser Chiefs frontman, Ricky Wilson, visited the Wildheart Sanctuary in Sandown earlier today — on his way to the Isle of Wight Festival.
Around 50,000 people are expected at Seaclose Park, from Thursday, September 16 until Sunday, 19.
