A COWES man caught with cocaine stuffed down his trousers and cannabis in his car has been fined.

Joshua Barnes, of Church View Close, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday (September 10).

The 21-year-old admitted possession of cocaine and cannabis in Sandown, on May 14.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court a grey BMW had been seen by police travelling on Sandown Road at around 11.30pm.

She said the vehicle was followed and parked in the YMCA Winchester House car park.

Ms Miller said police approached the vehicle and Barnes was found to be the driver — his girlfriend in the passenger seat.

She said he was asked to produce his insurance, which he said was on his mobile.

Ms Miller said he appeared to be deleting items while scrolling through his phone, and was seen to stuff something down his trousers.

Barnes was arrested and admitted having cocaine in his possession. His vehicle was subsequently searched and a quantity of cannabis was found.

In interview, Barnes told police he had the drugs for his own personal use.

Mark Dodd, defending, said Barnes was involved in a serious traffic collision in September last year, and suffered serious injuries, including a bleed on the brain.

He said Barnes admitted going off the rails since the incident but the birth of his child had been a life-changing situation.

Barnes was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £34 surcharge.
