AN ISLE of Wight man who sparked a Home Bargains police pursuit back in February has been fined for failing to comply with a community order.

Jed Atkinson, of Stower Place, Sandown — formerly of Gunville Road, Newport — appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The 25-year-old admitted failing to comply with a community order, by failing to attend unpaid work appointments on two dates in July.

The court heard there had been a brief blip in attendance, but Atkinson had since "got his head down" and returned to complying with the order.

Barry Arnett, for Atkinson, said he understood breaches were serious and had since got his affairs in order.

Atkinson was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £60, and his community order was allowed to continue.

On February 9, Atkinson was sentenced for assault by beating, obstructing officers in the execution of their duty, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words.

In October, 2020, he was chased by police through Home Bargains, where he was pepper sprayed and ended up punching a cleaner.

A police officer collided with shelving and a little girl started crying at the commotion, the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court heard at the time.

Atkinson was given a 12-month community order to include ten rehabilitation days and 100 hours of unpaid work.
