Sign up to Walk the Wight in support of Mountbatten, when the crucial fundraising event returns on Sunday.

It did not run in the same way last year, due to Covid-19.

This year, it is back with three options, depending on how far you want to walk.

Choose from the full 26 miles, the shorter flat walk, or one half of the main event.

Here's how to sign up:

  • Register for the main walk at Bembridge, between 6am and 8am.
  • At Sandown, register between 8.30am and 10.30am for the eight-mile Flat Walk.
  • If you want to walk the second half of the main route (Carisbrooke to Alum Bay), registration is between 8am and 12pm.

Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten CEO, said: “We always knew this year would be a bit different, but Walk the Wight is so vital to us, we are determined to make it as successful as we possibly can.

“It is our biggest fundraising event and we need people to get behind it.

“Our fundraising income, generally, is down by 30 percent compared to other years and we have to do all we can to make up the shortfall.

“The more support we have for Walk the Wight, the better our chances of doing that.

“Please get behind us and get involved in Walk the Wight in any way you can, it is our flagship event and we want to bring everyone together again, following the months of isolation and lockdown over the past year or so.

“It will certainly be an inspiring and emotional sight to see.”

Every effort has been made to make the event Covid safe, said organisers, with sanitising stations in place across the routes.

There is also general advice on wearing masks and keeping a distance from other walkers.
