The Cowes to East Cowes floating bridge will be out for up to a further month - missing the busy Isle of Wight festival weekend.

Further investigation has identified a serious fault with one of the main engines, said Isle of Wight Council.

It says it aims to return the vessel to service 'as swiftly and safely as possible'.

Replacing the drive motor with a new unit presents the most cost and time-effective solution, said County Hall, and that work is expected to take up to four weeks to complete.

The chain ferry was taken out of service on Thursday August 26, after developing a fault.

A launch service for foot passengers and cyclists will operate from 5am until 11pm (6.30am until 11pm Sundays).

The Isle of Wight Festival will see thousands of music fans arriving on the Island, from Thursday September 16.
