AN EMERGENCY incident has been declared after a ticket booth collapsed at Red Funnel's Southampton ferry terminal this afternoon (Monday).

Early indications are that a lorry has collided with the ticket booth, and a car has been caught up in the debris.

It is unknown at this stage whether anyone was inside the booth.

Police are at the scene and Red Funnel is expected to release a statement shortly.

The company tweeted: "Due to an emergency incident at our Southampton Car Ferry terminal, we are operating a shuttle service from Southampton until further notice.

"Please arrive no earlier than 30 mins before your original booked sailing time."

Update 2.18pm: 

A spokesperson from Red Funnel, said: “Following a traffic accident at Terminal 1 in Southampton this afternoon we are expecting delays and increased levels of traffic in the Town Quay area.

“Three Red Funnel colleagues were inside a check-in kiosk which was struck by an HGV this afternoon. Our priority is the safety of our team members and passengers, and although there are no significant injuries, both Police and Ambulance services are in attendance as a precaution.

“The incident area has now been secured and we are currently operating a shuttle service to clear traffic as quickly as possible. We advise anyone travelling today to arrive no sooner than 30 minutes prior to departure and to check the service status on the Red Funnel website where updated departure and arrival times are available: https://www.redfunnel.co.uk/en/isle-of-wight-ferry/service-status/. Only passengers with a booking are advised to travel to the terminal.”
