THE latest Covid data for the Isle of Wight shows more than 30 new cases have been confirmed.

Public Health England figures released today (Wednesday) show 39 new cases since yesterday's 48.

It takes the Isle of Wight total, since the start of the pandemic, to 10,032.

In the seven days to August 27, there were 350 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people on the Island.

Yesterday, in the seven days to August 26, that figure stood at 374.6.

Earlier today, another coronavirus-linked death was confirmed at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

A person died on August 27, meaning 160 people with Covid-19 have now died in hospital since March 2020.

On Monday, the slowing of new cases was reflected on the government's interactive map, when the Isle of Wight went from purple back to dark blue.

The map shows the rolling average rate as a colour, with more cases on average showing darker.
