AN RNLI rescue operation was launched to help two crew on board a sailing yacht that ran agound off Seaview.

Bembridge RNLI's inshore lifeboat, the Norman Harvey, and all-weather lifeboat, the Alfred Albert Williams, were launched at 10.10pm last night (Friday) following a distress call from the stricken 30ft 'Bavarian' yacht, which ran aground in Priory Bay.

The Norman Harvey towed the yacht into deeper water to allow the Alfred Albert Williams to continue the tow to Portsmouth, due to low tide in Bembridge.

After leaving the yacht at Endeavour Quay just after midnight, the lifeboat arrived back to Bembridge station at 12.50am this morning (Saturday).
