The Isle of Wight Floating Bridge is not working this afternoon (Thursday) due to a 'lack of power'.

The Cowes to East Cowes crossing will not be back in service until repairs have been completed, starting tomorrow (Friday) morning.

Members of the public have been waiting for the crossing and local councillors have stepped in to direct traffic to Newport.

Currently docked in East Cowes, the continually troubled vessel is suspended and a foot passenger service is running instead.

Sharing the update he has received from the Isle of Wight Council, East Cowes Cllr Karl Love has been told it is 'due to a lack of power'.

The Isle of Wight Council has since tweeted to say repairs will be undertaken tomorrow (Friday) morning.

The crossing was not running earlier this week due to staff sickness.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council said: "Due to fault on the floating bridge, it will be out of service for the rest of today (Thursday) until repairs can be undertaken on Friday morning.

"A launch service for foot passengers and cyclists is now in operation and further updates will be given when we know the expected time it will return to service.

"Apologies for any inconvenience."
