'Considerable' damage to a recently refurbished function room at a Newport pub has been caused during a break-in, according to a Facebook post.

Update: Enquiries continue into break in at Newport's Castle Inn pub

Confirming that staff were safe, managers at the Castle Inn said they are "absolutely heartbroken."

The pub says spirits and cash were stolen in the break-in.

In a social media post, the High Street venue wrote: "As a small family-run business, this is a setback we can’t afford.

"We would like to find out who needs to be held accountable for the damages.

"I’m sure you will understand that the pub may be open later than usual today."
