ETON Mess was invented when a strawberry pavlova was dropped on the floor, hurriedly swept up and served under its new monika to unsuspecting aristocracy, who lapped it up with excited whinnies before de-bagging the host for inventing such an amazing pudding.

Eton Mess describes the current government perfectly.

This particular bunch of elitist hooligans are the equivalent of a pavlova that has been dropped onto a filthy floor with the bacteria, hair, animal faeces, scabs, bogies, animal pee, mouldy crumbs and any other revolting thing that drops on a kitchen floor, all scooped up and presented as a thing of wonder.

And, to be fair, to some extent, this government is a thing of wonder. I wonder how they sleep at night, I wonder if they’re a bunch of psychopaths, I wonder how we can get these soulless ghouls out of power. I wonder how much more we, as a society, will take before we kick them out? I wonder if it is possible for a whole country to be collectively depressed to the point that they don’t care anymore. I wonder what will shine a light for people to actually see what is going on and realise the power of ‘us’

‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating’ is a well-worn cliché for a reason. Yet for some reason we as a populace seem to be gobbling this lot up and asking for more. My Granny had a saying, ‘I want nourishment not punishment’ God only knows what she would have said about this crop of entitled toffs.

There has been some muttering from the opposition about how the new administration is changing the job titles of those working for the council from ‘officers’ to ‘staff’ is derogatory and disrespectful. I am curious to know just how calling staff, well, staff, is disrespectful?

The use of ‘officer’ has always caused confusion among the general public.

Many people do not understand the context of the word officer or member. This becomes obvious when staff (officer) salaries are written about and it is clear that some people believe that it is the members (councillors) receiving large pay packets.

It is with no sense of irony or hypocrisy that those who led the previous administration are now howling about lack of consultation, transparency and democracy.

This was the same administration who slashed the number of council meetings from nine to six per year in order to avoid the public and make decisions behind closed doors.

They also reintroduced delegated decisions where executive members (now councillors) could make decisions without the approval of other councillors. They had one of their own chairing the scrutiny committee which made a mockery of the role of scrutiny. They decided quite arbitrarily that petitions from the public would only be looked at three times a year.

It is quite astounding how quickly those that abused the power they were given and shaved as much of the democratic process off as they could, are now stamping their feet over such ridiculous issues.

I am so glad that we now have an administration that believes in democracy and doing the right thing for the Isle of Wight. Having the current administration will be like a breath of fresh, democratic and honest air.
