THE Isle of Wight Met Service has revealed the areas of the Island which suffered the heaviest downpours today.
The service revealed the information on a day which saw some locally torrential downpours with occasional thunder and hail mixed in.
Newport tops the rainfall, with a whopping 65.81mm - around the same as a normal month would see fall - recorded in the town, Havenstreet is next in line with 61.47mm.
A report issued by the IW Met Service said: "Rainfall totals varied by an incredible amount over very short distances.
"The eastern half of the Island (saw) the bulk of the severe weather, and western parts, although seeing a few downpours earlier in the day, escaped the worst of the conditions.
"Interestingly, the heaviest downpours affected the same areas that saw the hottest conditions just a few days ago, although the two event are completely unrelated."
