POLICE officers investigating a public order incident yesterday evening (Saturday) outside the Pavilion Bar in Ryde at around 5pm, have issued a dispersal order for the whole of the Ryde area as a result.

The order was put in place at 5.55pm and will last 48 hours until 5.55pm on Monday evening (26 July).

Teams have been conducting extra patrols in the area, and are now making use of a Section 34 dispersal order.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We will continue to review this and another dispersal order may be put in place once this one has ended if deemed necessary.

"The dispersal order gives our officers the power to order a person to leave the area for a 48 hour period with no return. Refusal to comply with the order is a criminal offence.

"Those under 16 will be taken back to their home address, and follow-up work will be done with parents."

Following the public order incident, a 28-year-old man from Carisbrooke and a 26-year-old man from Wotton were arrested on suspicion of affray.

A 27-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of affray and theft.

While a 32-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a Class B drug.

All four men remain in custody at this time.
