THE ICONIC Bandstand restaurant in Sandown — known for its huge windows and stunning architecture — has been targeted by a vandal in the early hours.

A male yob has been caught on CCTV throwing rocks into three of the large windows, smashing them all, then casually walking off towards the town. It appears he filmed himself doing it, on his mobile.

Restaurant owners Paul and Donna Rowling has released the footage to the County Press in the hope the vandal will be identified and brought to justice.

He asks anyone with information to contact the police on 101 and quote crime reference number 202107220490. The County Press has asked Hampshire Constabulary for a statement.

The incident happened at around 4am yesterday (Thursday, July 22).

Paul was alerted at 6.30am when a passerby saw the destruction and sent the restaurant a Facebook message.

Isle of Wight County Press:

The restaurant team was understandably devastated by the news, especially coming at the height of the busy season and just as they emerge from Covid lockdowns.

Paul said: "All I can say is why? Why is someone out at 4am, doing this totally mindless vandalism? It doesn't make any sense."
