POLICE have made an arrest following an incident in Shanklin yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), which saw police use a Taser.

Officers were tasked to Regent Street at around 4pm, following reports of shoplifting in Boots.

Mark Anthony Cording, of Atherley Road, Shanklin, has since been charged with theft and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

He has also been charged with resisting arrest and possession of an offensive weapon ­— namely a glass bottle.

He has been bailed to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on August 17.

Police confirmed a a Taser was deployed during the arrest.
