A MAN is set to appear in court charged with causing deliberate misconduct on the water just metres away from Red Funnel's Red Osprey car ferry.

Sean Michael Gower, 30, of Harwich Road, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, is due at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Thursday).

He faces two counts being brought by the MCA contrary to the Merchant Shipping Act 1995.

One is that of misconduct of master/crew likely to endanger ships/structures/individuals, that on September 12, 2020, at Cowes, being the master of a RIB, did an act, namely accelerated to double the harbour speed limit before crossing the bow of the Red Funnel Red Osprey at a distance of 8m, which caused or was likely to have caused the death or serious injury to a person, that act being deliberate.

The second count is that in the inner fairway of Cowes Harbour, being the Master of a 6.5m RIB did impede the passage of the ferry Red Osprey.
