With lockdown restrictions now easing, Isle of Wight schools have been enjoying educational trips.

One of the most popular Island venues has been Nettlecombe Farm, Whitwell, where pupils can feed the animals and experience the fun of farm life.

More than 20 schools have visited the farm in recent weeks and Emma Theunissen, from the farm said the free visits are getting children back into the open air.

The rural educational visits are through the Natural England HLS programme.

Mrs Tapper, Reception teacher at Niton Primary School, said: “We have had a wonderful trip to Nettlecombe Farm.

The children have made some very happy memories stroking and feeding lots of animals.

"They have the opportunity to learn about the animals from the lovely animal keepers, ask questions and to get in with them too.

"Having the well-equipped play parks to let off steam in as well was fantastic.

Pupil Mae said: “I had the best day ever at Nettlecombe Farm, I loved seeing the animals and feeding them. I liked playing on the playgrounds as well with my friends.”
