Actor and director Max Minghella, son of the late Anthony Minghella, has been nominated for a prestigious Emmy award.

It is for his role in the dystopian adaption of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, in which he plays Commander Nick Blaine.

He is in the running for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The news is being welcomed by his fans and family.

Max's dad was The English Patient director, Islander Anthony Minghella.

Meanwhile, last month, the family celebrated the 100th birthday of Eddie Minghella, Max's grandpa.

Tweeting his response to his Emmy nomination, Max said: "We love making The Handmaid’s Tale and this incredible support of the cast & crew means the world to us #praisebe."
