Isle of Wight County Press Rainbow Run competition winner Lou Chambers was among 700 people to take on a 3km course of giant inflatables, on Sunday, July 18.

Lou was the lucky winner of the VIP team pass, at the Wessex Cancer Trust's event at Sandown airport.

Together with Toby, Helen, Fin, Ray Kalaker and Lou's son Troy, they rose to the challenge on one of the hottest days of the year.

As well as the inflatables, teams had to negotiate bubbles and powder paint, all in the name of charity.

Intrepid members of the Vectis under 12 football team and their families also took part.

They raised more than £900 - a whopping amount for the Wessex Cancer Trust, helping mark its 40th birthday.

Organiser say the event made a magnificent £26,000 for charity's Isle of Wight and expects that figure will rise as sponsorship rolls in.

Lorraine White, the charity's regional fundraising manager, said: "We're always blown away by the popularity of Rainbow Run and, yet again, Isle of Wight families and businesses came out in full force to support Wessex Cancer Trust on what must've been the hottest day of the year so far!

"Despite the intense heat, everyone came away with a smile on their face - and a coating of rainbow-coloured paint!

"Even in these uncertain times, Islanders continue to go above and beyond to raise money for us and we are always wowed by everyone's efforts and generosity.

"We have supported local families living with cancer for the past 40 years and your support will help us continue to be here for the next 40.

"Thank you so much."
