There are more than 500 Isle of Wight children currently self-isolating due to Covid cases at their schools.

Huge groups have been told to stay at home for ten days due to others in their bubbles receiving positive Covid tests.

At Broadlea Primary School alone there are 180 pupils self-isolating.

Medina College has 105 students self-isolating and Christ The King College has 117.

Ryde Academy has asked 27 pupils to, while Binstead Primary School has 61 pupils at home.

The Island Free School also has some Key Stage 3 children now at home for the remainder of the summer term.

The self-isolation rules have seen some services cut on the Island, including at Red Funnel ferries where nearly a third of staff are unable to work on the boats.

Ventnor's Spyglass Inn closed temporarily today when some staff were unable to work due to self-isolation (after being at a different venue).

The popular pub said it would have to operate at reduced hours over the coming days and would announce its opening times in due course.

Ventnor Winter Gardens had to close this week when some of its staff were told to self-isolate.

It's a legal requirement to self-isolate if you are told to by NHS Test and Trace.
