AN ISLE of Wight golfer dubbed 'Iron Man' has gone beyond the 19th hole in aid of a local good cause this weekend.

Steve Orchard, of Freshwater Bay Golf Club (FBCG), played 100 holes of golf on Saturday – more than five and a half rounds of the course.

Steve, who plays of handicap of ten, took part in the challenge to raise funds for Special Olympics Isle of Wight, a charity nominated by club captain Peter Bonnell.

In total, Steve covered more than 31,000 yards during 15 hours of play.

His day began at the first tee under the moonlight of a 4am sky and he sunk his hundredth putt under bright sunshine at 7pm on the same day.

A club official said: "It was a fantastic day with a wonderful turnout. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we are proud to raise money for this excellent cause."

Steve has so far raised more than £2,000 and is still accepting donations.
