LOCKDOWN has given an Isle of Wight artist the opportunity to add the final touches to unfinished projects, hand-painted artwork and standalone sculptures.

Andrew Dowden will exhibit his work at the Summer Show at Quarr Abbey on the outskirts of Ryde from July 8 to 13.

His ceramics are distinctive for their unique, bold and organic designs and surface textures.

Sculptural work available include modernist tumbling squares that do not tumble; cubes with innovative designs and reverent standing stones, all decorated and constructed by hand using slabs of clay.

He said: "My ideas come from many sources such as engineering, architecture, ancient monuments and historical events.

"Ideas are all around – you just have to be able to see them.”

His artwork in oils may not be as familiar as his ceramics, nevertheless, Andrew's mixed media wall art presents itself in three-dimensional form, together with sculptural pieces.

Andrew will be in attendance at the exhibition, so this will be an opportunity to purchase direct from the artist. A percentage of all sales goes to Quarr Abbey, a registered charity.

The exhibition runs from Thursday, 8 July to Tuesday, 13 July, 10am to 5pm daily. Admission is free.
