Repairs to a second water leak on Clarence Road will be made tonight (Tuesday), but the work should not involve another road closure, said utility firm Southern Water.

It has been monitoring a smaller leak, about 200 yards from Thursday's main burst, this time at the junction with School Hill Road.

Motorists are being asked not to park on Clarence Road, near the junction.

As the County Press previously reported, East Cowes has been holding its breath.

Repairs to the main burst on Thursday and Friday closed the road, which is being used as a temporary diversion route while delayed work is carried out on York Avenue.

Combined with cancelled ferries, it led to chaos in the town, including a gridlocked one-way system, cancelled appointments, late running and cancelled buses, lost local business and hours of delays.

The latest fix will involved two-way lights, but Clarence Road will remain open.

Souther Water says its engineers will be on site from 7pm.
