NORRIS Family Grocers has been serving the village of Niton and the surrounding area since Victorian times.

Established in 1887, it’s been at the heart of the community for well over a century and has been nominated for our Trader of the Week accolade by several local residents.

Customer Jayne Hill summed up the feeling of the community when she wrote on her nomination form: “Congratulations on being the hub of our village!”

She added that the shop specialises in pretty much everything you need, including groceries, electric top-up services and even firewood.

She recommended the fresh fruit and veg and said the staff always go the extra mile. If they don’t have something in the shop, they will endeavour to get it in for you and the store does deliveries too.

She said she believed customers returned time after time because of the friendly staff and well-stocked shelves.

Shani Watts said she recommended getting dairy and fresh vegetables from the store, but added that it offers a wide range of products.

She said: “The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. The store is open long hours and they increased their delivery service at the beginning of the pandemic, so that anyone shielding or vulnerable didn’t have to worry about how to get their shopping.

“They sell almost everything you could need and they are the only store for miles serving South Wight. They have also made the store as Covid-safe as possible.”

Neil Hollis and Ken Archer were also full of praise for the Niton store. They said: “We have both had to keep clear of people and shops during the Covid pandemic and Norris Family Grocers has been bringing our shopping to us.

“Some staff have been with them for many years and they will do anything to help others in the surrounding villages.

“The shop is family-run, the staff really care about the community and they offer a very friendly, helpful service.”

Last December Norris Family Grocers was presented an award by the then Isle of Wight high sheriff, Caroline Peel, in recognition the fact the business had gone that extra mile in helping people out during the pandemic.

The store has access to more than 5,000 products across fresh fruit and veg, in-store baked bread, chilled foods, frozen foods and groceries, including all your branded favourites, plus many local products.
