A new Island Line train has been spotted on the tracks at Ryde.

It was caught on a webcam, operated by Railcam UK, which overlooks Ryde pier.

Island Line stopped running in January and is currently undergoing a multi-million pounds refurbishment.

Testing of the new train has been taking place on the network.

Yesterday (Thursday) lunchtime at 1.40pm, a train ran through the coastal town, pulled by a yellow vehicle.

Webcam fans speculated it was a 'gauging' run - to test compatibility between the train and the network.

The service, which links Ryde Pier and Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight's popular tourist coast, was supposed to have been running again by now.

In April, operator South Western Railway admitted a software fault with the new rolling stock had prevented its relaunch.

SWR also previously blamed Covid-19 for holding up its suppliers, which meant the new-to-the-Island rebuilt former London trains could not be delivered to schedule.
