Safe swimming buoys have now been installed at Widdick Chine, in Totland Bay, on the Isle of Wight's west coast.

Totland Parish Council says it hopes the measure will prevent boats mooring too close to the shore, protecting West Wight beach goers.

Picturesque Widdick Chine is a sandy beach at the far western end of Totland Bay and it is popular with families and children.

However, its beauty has drawn an increasing number of visiting boats.

Isle of Wight County Press: The buoys will mean safe swimming at Totland Bay.

The buoys will stop the vessels coming too close to the beach, says the council.

Meanwhile, a launching lane and extra buoys will be installed on the Totland side from June 21.

East of Colwell Bay, Freshwater Parish Council is also putting in safe swimming buoys.
