POLICE arrested two men in Newport early this morning (Tuesday) following reports of a group fighting in the street.
At 12.21am, officers were called to the scene on Trafalgar Road.
They were responding to reports of a public order incident involving a group of people fighting in the street.
A vehicle was damaged, police attended and an officer was assaulted.
A 28-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
A 26-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, criminal damage, and using threatening/abusive words with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence.
Both men remain in custody at this time.
