THE sun reared its lovely head for the Isle of Wight Pony Club's (IWPC) annual open show at the weekend.

Held at George’s Field, the event welcomed many guests for a day of pony riding and fun.

The occasion presented an opportunity for the IWPC to showcase its sand school, lovingly repaired and resurfaced through grants from the IW Sports Foundation and Magic Little Grants from the Postcode Community Trust.

The club extended its gratitude to all the individuals who also gave their time to fence and repair the school, and is now fundraising to provide a hardstanding area for parking at the top of the field, so the school may be used in all weathers.

"We were especially pleased to see so many young riders enjoying their ponies, with 11 entries in the lead rein class," said club secretary, Nancy Hawkins.

"Horses and ponies were gleaming in the sunshine and enjoying an outing after the long lockdown.

"The mood was upbeat, as everyone enjoyed getting together and catching up."

Ring one champions comprised Jennifer Attrill with Brynera Elins Last, also the winner of the veteran class and supreme champion overall.

Reserve champions were Paige Richards with Gins Alfresco, and close-second reserve Martin Farrell with Southway Sparkling Champagne, owned by Vicky Lacey.

Ring two champions were Poppy Hughes with Whippingham Madeleine, and reserve champions were Pandora Wildish with Archie, owned by Miriam Horstman.

The club thanked judges Gemma Groves and Nick Williams, alongside all the stewards and volunteers, for their contributions throughout the day.
