THE body of a man in his 40s was found this morning (Monday) by police who were called to a National Trust site in Ventnor.

Police had earlier cordoned the area off as emergency services attended the scene at Down Lane following reports of the area being unsafe due to chemicals used in the vicinity of the incident. 

A spokesperson for the Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 9.28am following the discovery of a man’s body in a car on Down Lane, Ventnor.

"The death of the man, aged in his 40s, is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.

"The man’s next of kin have been informed."

Earlier we reported that a slew of emergency services were spotted rushing towards Ventnor with their sirens blaring.
