I find it very worrying that there are an initial 1,700 new homes planned for the Island.

A lot of these houses are thought to be built on greenfield sites, which is a trend we should not be thinking about in the first place.

All these new houses will no doubt have cars.

I read an article the other day where it was said, the infrastructure for a potential extra 2,000 cars on our roads is not there.

Where are the extra doctors? Where are the extra dentists? Can our one main hospital cope?

Our economy depends on a certain level of tourism each year but if we continue to build, build, build, will the tourists continue to come here in 10, 20, 50 years’ time?

The planning department needs to start listening to our voices and fast.

I am watching this beautiful Island slowly disintegrating.

I am in my 50s. I was born here and have lived here all my life. We are supposed to be a green Island.

The lack of direction to make our Island a green environmental blueprint for the rest of the country and the world to envy and emulate is ours if our newly elected councillors wish to take us there.

I have written a letter to each one of our newly elected councillors to that effect. I would encourage everyone to partake in all our futures. Please do not be an ostrich burying your head in the sand.

We are at a critical crossroads in our Island’s future.

Please be be proactive in writing letters to the planning office and your local councillors.
