Isle of Wight tourism boss Will Myles has welcomed Sandown's Blue Flag status.

The Chief Executive of Visit Isle of Wight has been giving his reaction to the beach awards announced today (Friday), for 2021.

Sandown Town Council has won a blue flag for the area which is popular with tourists.

Four locations - Sandown, Shanklin, Seagrove and Springvale have won Seaside Awards, meanwhile.

They have all been announced by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Will Myles told the County Press: "Congratulations to Sandown Parish Council for putting in the hard work and ensuring that Sandown is rightfully recognised once again as a beach worthy of Blue Flag status.

"It is fantastic to see Sandown, along with Springvale, Seagrove and Shanklin retaining their Seaside Awards.

"The beaches on the Isle of Wight are rightfully recognised as some of the best in the country and these awards give visitors the extra confidence to know that they are visiting somewhere that has been recognised, by Keep Britain Tidy, for their high standards of cleanliness and facilities."

As the County Press reported earlier, Sandown Mayor Gary Young has called the Blue Flag award a 'tremendous honour'.
