I write in response to Rob Lowe's letter (CP, 30-04-21) regarding the lack of compassion shown by vets to the stricken swan at Bembridge.

I too know of the wonderful, caring French vet he speaks of.

He came to my home when other vets and doctors were not keen to go our to houses, and vaccinated my cat and cleaned her teeth.

I was glad of this as my cat has a heart murmur and is terrified of the car.

I know he has also opened his surgery at 6am on a Sunday morning to remove a fishing hook stuck in a little dog's tongue.

I do hope Mr Lowe can shake the image of the suffering swan from his mind.

He should be proud he did the best he could for the bird.
