Now that all the hype concerning the local elections has died down a little, may I say a big thank you to the polling station officials who did a fantastic job.
I don’t know if all areas were as busy as Elmfield.
I walked past four times because the queue was too long and finally went back to vote at 9.20pm.
Even then I had to wait outside for 20 minutes before I could get in the building.
The staff were friendly, welcoming and cheerful, treating me as though I was one of the first batch of voters, not the last.
I know, from chatting to them, that they had been on duty for more than 14 hours by then. Thank you to a great group of people.
