Theatretrain's students had plenty of successes at this year's Isle of Wight Music, Dance and Drama Festival.

Although it was a virtual online event this year due to Covid, the 53 students who entered the singing classes, came home with a number of awards.

From Disney to rap, musical theatre and pop, the students gained eight first places, 16 second places, six third places and a number of commended places.

Throughout the pandemic, singing students have been having lessons via Zoom with their teacher, Hannah Caudle.

She said “ A huge well done to my wonderful singers - they all worked so hard to perfect these pieces over lockdown, and I am so so proud of them all!!”

Theatretrain director, Julie Caudle, added: “I’m so proud of our students for persevering with their lessons and practice, in what was a very difficult time for them all, they have all come on in leaps and bounds, and the results show that.”

Now back in live sessions, the youngsters are all preparing for their summer show at Shanklin Theatre in July.

Theatretrain students' dominated the Disney song, 11-13 years class, with Alfie Luke in first place; Cally Parry and Lily Valvona in joint second and Lyla Hunter and Ava Cowan in joint third.

Katy Haggerty and Fred Valvona were second and third respectively in the Disney song, 14-16 class, while Naeve Hunter and Freddie Holme were second and third in the  rock/pop, ten years and under section.

Lily Valvona and Lyla Hunter were second and third respectively in the rock/pop, 11-13 years class and in the rock/pop, 14-16 years section, Millie Lake came away with first place and Katy Haggerty was third.

In the musical theatre section, Naeve Hunter was second in the ten years and under, Lyla Hunter was second in the 11-13 years, and Millie Lake and Katy Haggerty were first and second respectively in the 14-18 years section.

In the musical theatre duo, 14-18 years, Lily and Fred Valvona were second and they also took second place in the rock/pop duo, 14-18 Years.

The television/film song classes were popular and Freddie Holme was second in the ten years and under section, while Ava Cowan and Lily Valvona were second and third in the 11-13 years. Lily also won the jazz song, 12-15 years, and Ava was second.

Fred Valvona won the rap song, 14-18 years, and Tilly Jones was victorious in the television/film song, 17-18 years.

Tilly also won the rock/pop novice, 17-18 years section, while Harley Mellar-Stone was second in the rock/pop novice, 14-16 years and Maisie Tickle won the rock/pop novice, ten years and under.

Maisie also won the musical theatre novice, ten years and under class, and Harley was second in the musical theatre novice, 14-16 years section.
