POLICE were called after a child was approached and offered sweets by an adult stranger in a black Transit van.

Police were also previously notified of a similar incident in Caesars Road, Newport, on April 22, and patrols have been increased in the surrounding areas.

In the most recent incident, Hampshire Constabulary confirmed it received a report of a child being approached in suspicious circumstances at 3.17pm on Friday May 7 in the Carisbrooke area.

The child was offered sweets, which they declined before running off.

The caller was given advice by the police, and details of this incident have been raised to the local Neighbourhoods Policing Team for awareness.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire Constabulary said: "We encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour in their area to report this to police on 101.

"Call 999 in the event of an emergency, or if a crime is in progress."
