Councillor Steve Hastings is the new interim leader of the Isle of Wight Council's 18 Conservative members, after yesterday's election count saw former leader Dave Stewart lose his seat.

The Conservative Party says more information will be released soon.

Councillor Hastings, who lives in Brighstone, has been appointed to the role tonight (Saturday).

Cllr Hastings won Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet, against Green Doug Alldred and Liberal Democrat Nick Stuart yesterday (Friday).

Cllr Hastings first won his seat in 2018 following a by-election, after Bob Seely stood down to concentrate on being the Isle of Wight's MP.

Cllr Hastings also took on the role of cabinet member for Environment, Heritage and Waste Management during the previous council term.
