When they decided to demolish something in the Sixties, they certainly didn’t do it by halves!
This massive explosion saw the end of the Whitefield viaduct at Nelson carried out in 1965.
Perhaps the photo makes it seem more dramatic than it actually was but you can imagine the impact being felt and heard over a wide area
