TWO sisters born and raised on the Isle of Wight have today (Friday) released a children's book.

Kim Ansell and Lisa Read's new paperback, Frederick the Fox, can be purchased on the website of publisher Inky Flamingo.

The story opens with an unhappy Frederick who has started taking everything for granted — his home, his possessions and his friends. Not feeling fulfilled, he sets out on a journey to find happiness.

Along the way his fur gets matted from a trip to the beach, he catches a cold in the Arctic, he gets scared by a shark while deep sea diving, gets cold at the pool, and rained on at the fair.

In between each of his stops, the book visits his friends Owl, Mouse, and Rabbit who are missing Frederick terribly, keeping tabs on his travels, and keeping his house and garden clean and tidy.

Frederick eventually realises that, for him, the key to happiness is his friends.

Kim said: "For me, the best part has been seeing the illustrations come through from Lisa. Each and every page has so much going on that you have to spend time really looking at to be able to appreciate what she has achieved.

"As for what’s next, we decided to be brave and optimistic and bought a block of ISBN numbers instead of just one, so our creative juices are definitely flowing!"

The book has been printed and bound in the United Kingdom using paper from responsibly managed forests and vegetable-based inks.

Each page has been illustrated with hand painted water colours.

The sisters began to collaborate on the book when Kim was on maternity and Lisa was furloughed.

At the end of last year Lisa was made redundant, and decided to dedicate herself to illustrating and printing the book.
