This week's pets gallery features some adorable cats and dogs who are a contact source of joy to their owners.

Bessie, the ten-year-old Basset hound (main image above) has an inspiring story.

Owner Sarah Cantelo, of Newport, said: "Bessie had a slipped disc two years ago and couldn't walk. She was in the vets for a week but got no better, so the vets decided to let me take her home to see how she went - otherwise the only option was to send her to rainbow bridge.

"She was held up using a sling around her back end and she had a course of medication, then she started hydrotherapy at Doggy Paddles which made a great difference. Two years on and Bessie is doing great - she's had another relapse, but with rest she's now doing great and enjoying life running around with our other dogs."

Isle of Wight County Press: Opie looking cute.

Opie is a constant source of joy to owner Charlotte.

We love Charlotte Wallis's one-year-old pug Opie, who is a cheeky little fellow.

Charlotte, from Sandown, said: "Opie is a little monkey and so mischievous! He can go round in a circle on command, sit, jump up etc. He also loves to climb trees!

"My son bought me him as a surprise after my beautiful dog Roxy passed away. He helped in healing my broken heart. He's a little love."

Isle of Wight County Press: Willow and Pudding's representation of lockdown 1 2020

This is what Willow and Pudding thought of the first lockdown!

Michelle Angell's dogs, Willow and Pudding, are a funny couple. Willow, the staffie cross greyhound, is seven, while Pudding the pug is three.

Michelle, from Ventnor, said: "Willow is like a grumpy old woman to Pudding’s naughty adventures! Pudding is so naughty she even ate Santa's treats on Christmas Eve. They love dressing up and have been great companions to Jack, ten,  during the lockdowns as he has missed all his schoolfriends so much. He calls them his fur sisters and spends a lot of time cuddling them and playing with them."

Isle of Wight County Press:

Milo and Bear, the Golden Chinchilla cats.

Finally, we adore Andy Clayton's two six-year-old longhaired Golden Chinchilla cats, Milo (left) and Bear.

Andy, from Shanklin, caught Milo on camera while he was relaxing after Sunday dinner, while Bear is pictured enjoying the sunshine in the garden.
