GUSTS of 68mph have been recorded at Shanklin tonight as high winds hit the Island.

The recording was made at the IW Met Service's Shanklin Station.

Trees have come down locations including in St John's Road in Wroxall, and School Green Lane in Freshwater, amid a warning from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service that the wind is bringing down trees. 

Southern Vectis buses are having to divert and are warning of delays. They are unable to serve Melville Street in Ryde due to a tree in the road.

Red Jets and Hovertravel hovercrafts were suspended earlier this evening. The car ferries are still operating.

A yellow wind warning was issued earlier today by the Met Office.

UPDATE 11pm: Red Funnel has cancelled the 23.55 sailing from Southampton, and has issued a warning about the morning Red Jets.
