A BMW left the road and crashed into a tree in woods near Shanklin.

The black 5-series has suffered extensive damage to the front end.

The incident happened overnight, just off Church Road as it turns into Cowleaze Hill on the route to Ventnor.

The car has been left wedged in a tree trunk, in the woods, behind a wire fence.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We received a report of a single-vehicle collision at 11.58pm yesterday evening (2 May) on Church Road.

"A black BMW left the road, mounted a grass verge and collided with a tree.

"No injuries were reported and officers spoke with the driver. No arrests have been made."
