PUB-GOERS reported seeing a man with a machete outside a Northwood pub yesterday.

Police were called and conducted a search at and around the vicinity of The Travellers' Joy on Pallance Road, but no one was found.

Staff at the popular pub, declining to comment today, did post on Facebook yesterday: "In light of a few shenanigans that went on earlier this evening, as from tomorrow, we're only accepting customers who have pre-booked, both for food and drink.

"We apologise for any inconvenience, but we want everybody to stay and feel safe, while at The Travellers Joy."

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 5.15pm last night (April 17) with reports of a man outside the Traveller’s Joy pub carrying a weapon, described as a machete.

"No one was harmed during this incident.

"Police attended but the individual had left the area.

"Enquiries remain ongoing."

Update: Pete Booth, landlord, told the County Press the incident unfolded outside the pub, when a man was spotted yielding a knife.

He had 100 people in the pub garden and had to announce to them what was happening, while the police conducted a search of the area.

They shut the pub for an hour, and the people who hadn't had their food were sent to The Stag Inn.
