The Isle of Wight Road Races, which would have seen motorbikes racing on the Island's roads in October, will now move to dates in 2022, its organisers hope.

Earlier today, it was revealed that this year's event had fallen foul of Covid-19 restrictions.

More information is due to be released by organisers next week.

A spokesman for Isle of Wight Road Races said: "Lockdown delays have simply run down the clock for an event this year, so we are now working towards our contingency dates in 2022.

"More details will follow shortly via our website which will be live from Wednesday April 21.”

Organisers want to run an elite-level motorcycle road race.

Earlier this month, consultation began with parish and town councils.

Meanwhile, a separate event, the inaugural Diamond Races time-trial event, has also been postponed to 2022 and hopes to draw crowds of between 25,000 to 45,000.
