DOSES of 'Vitamin Sea' are proving quite the tonic — and all for good causes too.

Lady Sally Grylls and Island-based DJ Rob Da Bank have both thrown their support behind Swim the Wight, which aims to improve lives through sea swimming on the Island.

Rob said: "Lockdown's been pretty hard for so many, so any way to escape has been a Godsend.

"Cold water swimming has definitely been that for me and we’re blessed on this beautiful Island to have so many spots to jump into the sea and help your physical body and mental health.

"If we can raise some money for an amazing charity and for dementia all the better."

Victoria Thorneton-Field, who is an oceanographer, qualified open water swimming coach and brand ambassador for the STA (Swimming Teachers' Association), said: "These latest pictures are from a delightfully delicious sunny swim in Sandown Bay with new friends and old, to promote and support both physical and mental wellbeing.

"That is at the heart of Swim The Wight’s aims of improving lives through Vitamin Sea regardless of who you are, how you are or where you are in life’s journey.

"Thanks to Rob da Bank and Lady Sally Grylls for their support.

"Evidence and ongoing studies show that cold water can help prevent dementia, improve mental health, soothe some physical ailments and make you ZING!

"Swim The Wight is there to support anyone who would like to give it a go."

The group would like to know the barriers preventing people benefitting from enjoying the beach and sea. You can let them know and seek more information on contact@swimthewight.co.uk

As restrictions ease, the group will be introducing regulars group swims, full-moon swims as well as acclimatisation sessions for beginners and sea swimming coaching sessions with qualified instructors.

On Saturday, June 26, at Quay Arts, the group will be hosting ‘Vitamin Sea at The Quay' — an opportunity for new and experienced swimmers to gather for an original fusion of art, sport and conversation.

Victoria, along with Sandy Ciccognani, are raising money for Mountbatten and Admiral Nurses, as well as the Swim the Wight CIC.

So far they have raised more than £2,000. Click here to donate.
