HAMPSHIRE Constabulary is investigating after allegations were made regarding sexual offences at a former Isle of Wight school.

The alleged offences date back to the 1980s, and were first made public in a Facebook group.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We're aware of commentary circulating on a private Facebook group relating to alleged sexual offences at the former Bembridge school in the 1980s.

"We are very keen to understand the nature and wider circumstances of what is being disclosed in this group, and would encourage anyone making these comments, or who has any information, to report it to us.

"Please can we invite you to answer the questions within this portal, or if you prefer to speak to someone then you can call the police on 101.

"If you would prefer to speak to someone, please call 101 and ask for Hampshire Constabulary, quoting reference 44200359258 or Operation Seaside."

If you have any information or concerns relating to the school, which has been closed for a number of years, report them to police on 101, quoting Operation Seaside.
