FIREFIGHTERS have been called to rescue two people stuck in a cherry picker this afternoon (Thursday).

At 1.53pm, fire crews from Newport and Ryde were called to the scene on Belgrave Road.

Firefighters are looking to use an aerial ladder platform to help get them down.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue said the two individuals require assistance due to a possible mechanical failure.

No ambulance is needed.

UPDATE:

Fire officer, Julian Fountaine said that with the cherry picker positioned on a slope, safety systems stopped it from operating.

Firefighters had to rescue both individuals from the cherry picker so they could safely bring down the machinery.

Two occupants have been safely transferred to the cage of the aerial ladder platform and returned to ground level.

The road is now open to traffic.
