An Islander has died in hospital after contracting Covid-19, according to new NHS figures released today (Thursday).

The death was recorded on April 7, at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

It means 152 people have now died in hospital on the Island and in total, 285 people have died (including deaths in the community), since March 2020.

The rate of new cases is falling, however.

Four new coronavirus cases were added yesterday (Wednesday), which brings the Isle of Wight's total to 6,755 and the rolling average to 12 per 100,000 people, in the seven days to March 18.

New case data is published at 4pm.

Two new care home deaths were announced earlier today.
