A TEACHING assistant at a Newport special needs school is set to complete a solo half-marathon — raising money for two worthy causes.

Jamie Hindson, of Wootton, will be running for his school, and for people who have suffered with their mental health during the pandemic.

The 30-year-old, who is also an SEN community respite carer, originally planned to run in February, then March, but due to lockdown and the government's 'stay at home' message, has now rescheduled for April 18.

Leaving St George’s School at 18, Jamie became the first former student to gain full time employment as a teaching assistant at the school.

"Sadly, during this pandemic there has not been much support for mental health, so I wanted to do my bit and raise some money," said Jamie.

"Mental health, special education needs and social care is my absolute passion and has been for the last 15 years.

"During this pandemic it has been a real struggle for so many people, including the vulnerable. Life is changing daily and so many of our favourite things have closed.

"The amazing Coral Leach, who has run a marathon herself, advised me on what would be the best route for my run.

"I have been training in my hometown, which the guidance says you should do.

"Before the January lockdown I was training in other towns, so fingers crossed this event can continue.

"So far, I’ve raised more than £420.

"Thank you to those who have donated and shared, it means a lot."

Jamie will both start and finish his solo half-marathon challenge at St George's School.

My name is Jamie Hindson aged 30

I’m a teaching assistant at St. George’s school in Newport and a SEN community respite carer.

I was also a former student there too. I left St. George’s school at 18 and then became the first ever ex student to leave and gain full time employment as a teaching assistant at the school.

Part of my challenge is I will be doing a solo half marathon run for Mental Health Isle of Wight 2021 on the 7th February 2021 Sunday. It will be to help raise money for mental health for St. George’s school and the IW mental health team through the NHS. Sadly during this pandemic there hasn’t been much support for mental health so I want to do my bit and raise some money.

Mental health, special education needs and social care is my absolute passion and has been for the last 15 years. During this pandemic it has been a real struggle for so many people including the vulnerable. Life is changing daily and so many of our favourite things are closing.

I am always up for supporting and donating to fantastic charities. Due to the current situation we are facing this year and still facing with this pandemic with covid-19, I am raising money for mental health on the Isle of Wight. I will be donating the funds to a special needs school on the Isle of Wight St George’s School and the Isle of wight mental health team. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much support for children and adults with mental health during this pandemic. I know a lot of people are facing other challenges but I am kindly asking for any small donations that can be spared or use to sponsor me for this event please. This will be a solo run and will be taking place in February 07th 2021 Sunday.

I will be truly grateful if you can support me

If its possible? are you able to publish my event that i'm doing on the 18th April 2021?

You may know of my solo half marathon run that i'm doing but due to lockdowns and stay at home message etc i've had to push it back.

I've included the official new route, brief discription, pictures and link to help donate,

Many thanks

Jamie Hindson

SOLO HALF MARATHON - DATE CHANGE 18th April 2021 at 1pm

Following the latest roadmap announcement that the government set out on Monday 22nd February 2021.

-The new rules have said that the ‘Stay at home’ message will end on the (29th March 2021 Monday)

This means my solo half marathon which was due to take place on the (28th March 2021 Sunday) will have to be postpone to a new date —

18th April 2021 (hoping if all things go to plan)

We continue to follow the government guidelines and reviewing constantly and if all is well with the steps in place by the 18th April 2021. 🤞🏽

The amazing Coral Leach who has previously run a marathon before has helped by messaging me on how to design and what would be the best route and for my solo half marathon run. You can see where I’ll be starting and finishing. 😊

I have been training locally in my local hometown (Wootton) which the guidance says you should do. Before the January lockdown I’ve been training into other towns etc, so fingers crossed this event can continue. So far I’ve raised over £420… thank you to those that have donated and shared. It does mean a lot and it’s very much appreciated 😊
