A FAMILY-RUN plant nursery and cafe in Newport is appealing for witnesses after a number of trees were stolen last night (Tuesday).

The break-in occurred at Forest View Nursery along Forest Road.

The perpetrators cut through two parts of the site's metal fence with bolt croppers and stole six large palm trees.

A post from the nursery said: "They would have needed a large vehicle and probably at least two men to lift the heavy trees, this would have taken some time.

"If anyone knows anything please message us — you will be kept anonymous.

"We are a small local business which has suffered from the effects of Covid-19. This is a really sad state of affairs which, at this tough time, we can't quite believe someone would do."

The incident has been reported to the police alongside evidence left at the scene.

In addition, anyone offered a palm tree (Trachycarpus) like the one in the image, is asked to contact the police.
